Ashley-Nicole Asatu Barnes holds a Masters degree in Public Administration from California State University Stanislaus with specializations in Public Policy, Program Evaluation, Organizational Development, and Group Dynamics.  She also holds a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Grambling State University with specializations in Paralegal Studies and Criminology.

Ashley is now focused on holding space specifically intended for women who are ready to begin their own emotional, physical, and mental healing process through the intentional use of truth telling, seed planting, collaboration, and plant-based herbal medicines.  Ashley provides hands-on, in-person sessions and virtual sessions to those seeking healing and liberation.  Ashley's offerings include but are not limited to Hatha and Kemetic yoga, cannabis bodywork, customized herbal therapy treatment plans, and customized wellness treatment plans.

In 2014, Ashley co-founded a wellness collective called Healing Inside Out with the wife and wife duo of Stokes Kennedy, a lifestyle brand working out of SoCal. HIO came together naturally for a community that was lacking a safe space. In 2016, HIO hosted their first annual retreat, then called the 420 Wellness Retreat in NoCal. Since the inaugural retreat, Team HIO has received amazing feedback from the HIO community that, "this experience was needed and appreciated".

The HIO Mission is to honor and strengthen our bodies, minds, and spirits naturally so we can heal ourselves from the inside out.  Team HIO seeks to rid our communities of the ignorance surrounding cannabis and its healing properties. We create spaces that encourage intentional cannabis consumption while celebrating the cannabis plant and all the ways it can be utilized as a wellness tool for the body, mind and spirit.  The HIO Retreat will also continue to serve as a cannabis learning experience for all, and as a spotlight for women of color in the cannabis industry.
